Restored Tour, Perth - REVIEW

Monday, 09 November 2009 00:00

The "Restored" Tour with Barry Woodward and Shell Perris came to the National Christian Outreach Centre on Monday. It coincided with the monthly Outreach Supper meeting, so the format was a little different to the norm.

After a time of praise led by the PCF worship team, Shell Perris kicked off the evening with a few songs from her new album, "Beautiful Life". There was a good reception to her songs, given that the average age of those attending was well above the teenagers she normally performs for.  She mixed song with testimony of how the love of God broke through on her life at a time when she was suffering from anorexia.

When Shell handed over to Barry, we wondered what had hit us as a whirlwind of Mancunian energy arrived on the platform. He led us on his life's journey, stopping occasionally to point out the lessons he had learned. As he unfolded his story of descent from recreational drug user to heroin addict, it was hard to imagine how this enthusiastic Christian had once been in such a low place.

His judicious use of humour sometimes left us gasping for breath. As he described his first visit to church, the laughter rose to a crescendo. At the same time, Barry was clearly spelling out the miraculous way in which God has His hand on his life. Within four weeks of encountering Christ, he was completely free of both heroin and methodone.

Without any lengthy, drawn out appeal, twenty people responded to the invitation to come to the Lord Jesus. It was a fitting end to a memorable and enjoyable evening.
