The Man on the Bus - Time to Graduate

Share

Many of you have heard me talk about the man I met on the bus, who was instrumental in me coming to faith, his name is John Johnston. For as long as I can remember, John has been great at talking with people ‘one to one'. So, when I heard two years ago that he had started his training with the Manchester Street Pastors, I thought ‘great stuff.'

In September 2008, I had the privilege of attending his graduation service at Bethshan Church, in Longsite. Here, he was awarded his diploma by the Coordinator, Tony Winters - Tony and I go back many years, way before we were both Christians; say no more. After his two year training period, John will continue to work as a Street Pastor in Manchester, putting what he he has learned into practice.

As I sat there, watching each person take hold of their certificate, I thought that, in a sense, God wants us all to graduate. He doesn't want anybody to stay in one place of learning for too long because He does things in seasons. We train in one place for a time, graduate and then put into practice what we have learned. We then move into another season of learning, eventually graduate and put that experience into practice too, and so on. This is how we maintain a lifestyle of learning, becoming more effective at what we do.

Maybe it's time for you to graduate?
