The Jesus I Know
Recently, I’ve been reading a book called 'The Jesus I Know'. This book has 39 chapters all by different authors. Each writer gives their own perspective on the Jesus they know, using approximately 2000 words.
The first chapter has been wonderfully articulated by a guy called Bishop Ken Clarke. Here’s an extract.
The Jesus I know is a Jesus whose love is a selfless muscular love. His love is not a wishy-washy, wimpish kind of love. His love is surprising in its expression, disturbing in its extent and profoundly overwhelming in my personal experience and the experience of millions of others across the world.
The Jesus I know is a trailblazer, courageous in His actions, astonishing in His attitude, a breaker of moulds but always in line with the Father’s will. He profoundly disturbs religions people. He constantly engages with needy people.
The Jesus I know challenges my prejudices. He calls me to be radical. He confronts my hypocrisy. He sees my secret struggles. He is hurt by my sin. Yet I still see the moisture of grace in His eyes and I still know the depth of His mercy in his my heart. I have said sorry many times for my rebellion and folly. I recognise the reality of His forgiveness in my life. I hear Him whispering in my ear, ‘Your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more.’ They are but I don’t. The Jesus I have come to know forgives and forgives again.
This is the Jesus that I know too. What about you?
