The Test of Enthusiasm

One of the great things about my job is that I get to visit many churches and meet lots of people. Believe me, you meet all kinds of people when you’re on the road.

Some time ago, I was in one church (hopefully not your church), and it seemed like the people didn’t really want to be there. In fact, it looked like they had all been sucking on lemons before they walked through the doors!

Billy Graham once said: ‘People go to football matches and sing and shout their heads off, they go to the circus and cheer act after act. They become enthusiastic about everything conceivable, but when it comes to spiritual matters they think they are supposed to become sober and wear black, and never have a good time or enjoy a religious event’.

I can’t understand why some people are like this because all Christians have every reason to be enthusiastic. I’m not talking about being flaky, hyper or over-religious. What I mean is a grounded genuine enthusiasm that expresses our gratitude to God for the things he has done for us.

There are three reasons why we should all be enthusiastic:

1) We have been forgiven from the past

2) We have been given new life today

3) There is hope for our eternal future

It's alright to be enthusiastic about being a Christian!

Enthusiasm means being passionate, eager, ardent, warm, committed, devoted and excited. My question to you is: How enthusiastic are you about your faith?
